On the basis of the results of the Cyprus Passenger Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism in February of this year reached EUR3,8 million compared to EUR49,5 million in the corresponding month of 2020, recording a decrease of 92,3 percent, as well as a decrease of 92,7 percent compared to February 2019 (EUR52,4 million).

The arrivals of Cyprus tourists reached 8,811 in March of this year, recording a decrease of 84,1 percent compared to March 2020 (during which 55,342 arrivals were recorded), and a decrease of 94,8 percent compared to March 2019 (with 169,934 arrivals).

The Cyprus Ministry of Tourism announced that following a relevant international tender, in which consulting companies from Cyprus and abroad participated, the process of preparing the study for the sustainable tourism development of the wider area of Polis Chrysochous and Tillyria and for the establishment of its tourist identity has begun.

Compared to EUR40,2 million in the corresponding month of the 2020, it recorded a decrease of 93 percent, as well as a decrease of 92,9 percent compared to January 2019 (EUR39,6 million).

In 2020, tourism was among the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the travel restrictions as well as other precautionary measures taken in response. In 2020, the number of nights spent at European Union (EU) tourist accommodation establishments totalled 1,4 billion, down by 52 percent compared with 2019.

On the basis of the results of the Cyprus Passenger Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism in December 2020 reached EUR9,1 million compared to EUR54,6 million in the corresponding month of 2019, recording a decrease of 83,3 percent.

For the period January – December 2020, revenue from tourism is estimated at EUR392,0 million compared to EUR2.683,0 million in the corresponding period of 2019, recording a decrease of 85,4 percent.
