A teleconference of delegations of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), headed by its Zhu Shanzhong, executive director, and Savva Perdios, deputy minister of tyourism, Cyprus, took place on February 22.  The ambassador of Cyprus to Spain, Elena Mina, also participated in the teleconference.

The Cyprus arrivals of tourists reached 3,889 in January of this year recording a decrease of 95,5 percent compared to January 2020, during which 85,.622 arrivals were recorded, and 95,3 percent decrease compared to January 2019 (with 81,970 arrivals).


The arrivals of travellers in December 2020 reached 30,099 compared to 273,714 in December 2019, recording a decrease of 89 percent.

The arrivals of tourists to Cyprus reached 9,682 in December 2020 compared to 110,330 in December 2019, recording a decrease of 91,2 percent.

On January 12 The European Commission (EC) announced that it had approved, under EU State aid rules, a EUR86,6 million Cypriot scheme to support companies active in the tourism sector.

On the basis of the results of the Cyprus Passenger Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism in October 2020 reached EUR77,4 million compared to EUR299,4 million in the corresponding month of 2019, recording a decrease of 74,1 percent.
