In the framework of the MED9 initiative, the ministers and high level officials of the Ministries of Education of the nine Mediterranean EU Countries convened in Limassol, Cyprus, on June 27, invited by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, which also holds the Chair of the Mediterranean Committee on Education for Sustainable Development (MCESD), to discuss further how ESD can be strengthened collectively in the MED9 countries and act as a key driver for the Green transition, and for creating more resilient, just and sustainable societies.

The movement of travellers to and from Cyprus in 2023 recorded an increase compared to 2022. Total arrivals of travellers reached 6.107.725 recording an increase of 26,4 percent and departures totalled 6.105.574, also recording an increase of 26,8 percent, compared to 2022. Air traffic represented 95,1 percent of arrivals and 95,2 percent of departures in 2023.

In 2021, 1.5 million enterprises in the EU had their core business in the real estate sector, representing 4.8 percent of all active enterprises in the EU’s business economy.  This marked an 11 percent increase from 2020 (1.3 million enterprises).

In May of this year the total Cyprus government employment reached 54.826 persons. For the period January – May an average total government employment reached 54.835 persons, marking an increase of 2.684 persons (5,1 percent) compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

Based on the results of the Passengers Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism in Cyprus reached EUR113,0 million in March this year compared to EUR97,8 million in the corresponding month of 2023, recording an increase of 15,5 percent.

Cyprus unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of May 2024, reached 8.159 persons.
