Wizz Air Celebrated Nine Million Passengers Milestone in Cyprus

Wizz Air, one of EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airlines, proudly announced a major milestone in Cyprus, surpassing nine million passengers transported to and from Larnaca International Airport since launching operations in the country.

This achievement underscores Wizz Air’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable, high-quality travel experiences while expanding its presence in the region.

Since launching operations in Cyprus in 2020, Wizz Air has rapidly expanded its network and established itself as a key airline in the market. As part of its continuous growth strategy, the airline recently introduced two new routes from Larnaca International Airport to Cairo and Milan, further enhancing connectivity for travellers.

In celebration of this achievement, Wizz Air rewarded the lucky nine millionth passenger with a unique travel voucher and surprised travellers on a flight from Budapest to Larnaca with celebratory treats, adding a festive touch to their journey.

Commenting on this achievement, Olivia Harangozo, corporate communications Manager at Wizz Air, said, “Reaching nine million passengers at Larnaca International Airport is an incredible milestone for us. This accomplishment reflects the trust and loyalty of our passengers, who continue to choose Wizz Air for their travel needs. We are happy to see more and more passengers from Cyprus choose Wizz Air, and we remain dedicated to offering affordable fares, an extensive network of destinations, and an exceptional travel experience. Our commitment is to continuously adapt to our customers’ evolving expectations while making air travel more accessible than ever.”

Achieving this remarkable milestone of serving nine million passengers, Wizz Air has cemented its position as a leading airline in Cyprus and market leader in Larnaca. The airline first began operations in Cyprus in 2010 as an inbound carrier and building on its successful partnership with Hermes Airports, launched its Larnaca base in 2020 with two aircrafts. Since then, the airline has tripled its capacity, making Wizz Air the largest carrier in Larnaca with a market share of 28 percent, and a key player in Cypriot aviation.

Maria Kouroupi, director of aviation development, marketing, and communication, Hermes Airports, stated, "Hermes Airports’ strong partnership with Wizz Air continues to develop, empowering our strategic goal to enhance Cyprus’s air connectivity with year-round flights, promoting sustainable tourism and giving to both local and international passengers a range of valuable travel options.  The milestone of nine million passengers highlights the substance of our long-term successful collaboration with Wizz Air and we are looking forward to expanding our partnership, to further enhance our country’s connectivity, economy, and tourism."
