University of Limassol Inaugurated with Grand Opening Ceremony

The University of Limassol, a highly anticipated educational institution, was officially inaugurated in a spectacular ceremony on June 12 at Limassol Marina’s beautiful slipway area.

Commencing at 18:00, the event gathered distinguished guests, including government officials, educators, and community leaders, to celebrate the opening of this distinguished university. The evening was elevated by exquisite panoramic views of the Marina, providing a fitting backdrop for this momentous occasion.

Among the notable figures in attendance was Limassol’s Mayor, Nicos Nicolaides and Cyprus’ Minister of Education, Sport, and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, both of whom spoke about the university’s commitment to providing exceptional learning opportunities to students in Cyprus and abroad, and its potential to further enhance Limassol’s reputation as a hub of intellectual growth and innovation.

Michaelidou added that, “University education plays an outstanding role in the economic and social development of a country, while also providing its human potential the required material in order for the economy and society to become and to remain competitive and innovative. Through innovative teaching methods, the connection of study programmes with the requirements of the labour market, the promotion of research in not only scientifically but socially interesting subjects, will equip its students to have successful professional and personal lives,” she said, speaking in particular about the University of Limassol.

The University of Limassol is a progression of the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM), a renowned business school in Cyprus founded in 1990 by leading Cypriot executives and prominent academics from top universities abroad.

After more than three decades as a successful postgraduate school with international recognition and its gradual expansion in disciplines beyond business, including computer science and technology, economics, and finance, CIIM was upgraded to a university, the University of Limassol, after rigorous assessment by CYQAA. The university will start operations on September 01.

Limassol Marina was honoured to host and be part of this landmark event, recognising the impact that the University of Limassol will have on enhancing the living standards and intellectual vibrancy of the wider community and the island.
