ClimateLaunchpad 2018, Concluded

The national phase of ClimateLaunchpad 2018, the largest green business ideas competition worldwide, concluded with a successful Demo Day on September 13 in Cyprus.

The winning teams continue their journey to the Global Grand Final, which will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland in November. The successful teams are: ‘Mighty Meat’, ‘HomeShield’, and ‘Fiji’, which will represent Cyprus and O Straws, Power Forecast and Meraki People, which will represent Greece.

ClimateLaunchpad is a programme offered by Climate-KIC, the EU’s main climate innovation initiative, aiming to highlight the best cleantech ideas across the globe, and organised in Cyprus and Greece by Chrysalis LEAP, an official partner of Climate-KIC since 2016.

The event took place at the Acropolis Park Caves in Nicosia, Cyprus. The successful teams had the opportunity to present their green business ideas to the audience. Attendants also had the opportunity to hear from Aqualoop, a ClimateLaunchpad 2016 national finalist and Climate-KIC Accelerator graduate who presented their successful journey to date. Paris Thomas, co-founder, Chrysalis LEAP further presented the ongoing programs and upcoming opportunities for this year and 2019.

The ClimateLaunchpad journey for these teams began with an intensive two-day training boot camp where they were coached and mentored by members of the Chrysalis LEAP team and representatives from PwC Cyprus, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, George Z. Georgiou and Associates and Pandora Bakeries. They further attended a series of specialized in-depth coaching sessions aiming at preparing them for the final.

At the Global Grand Final, which will take place November 01 -02 in Edinburgh, the winning teams will compete with more than 130 start-up teams from more than 45 countries globally, aiming to secure one of the top 10 places.

The best 10 start-ups, that will be selected by esteemed judges at the Grand Final, win direct access to Climate-KIC’s acceleration programme, a ‘real life business school’ that focuses on the development and commercialisation of cleantech start-ups, as well as access to further funding.
