Ayia Napa Honours Two 1974 Heroes

Ayia Napa recently honoured the memory of two of its heroes, Yiannakis Pappoullis and Christakis Pieris.

An annual national memorial service was held for the two on August 05 at Panayia Ayia Napa Church in memory of Pappoullis and Pieris, who died heroically during the 1974 Turkish Invasion.

The memorial service was carried out by Archimandrite Ieronymos Pyliotis with a speech giving by Yiannakis Gavriel, politician. In his speech, Gavriel said that it was only by recognising the sacrifice made by the two and the principals for which they fought could someone hope for better days in Cyprus.

“We keep their memory alive because this is the only way to build strong foundations for the future of our land,” Gavriel said.
