Tourist Arrivals and Return of Residents of Cyprus from Trips Abroad for July Announced

Cyprus tourists’ arrivals reached 551.229 in July of this year compared to 523.718 in July 2023, recording an increase of 5,3 percent. For the period of January – July 2024, arrivals of tourists totalled 2.203.704 compared to 2.137.408 in the corresponding period of 2023, recording an increase of 3,1 percent.

Arrivals from the UK were the main source of tourism for this July, with a share of 33,9 percent (186.751) of total arrivals, followed by Israel with 12,9 percent (71.238), Poland with 6,4 percent (35.456), Sweden with 4,3 percent (23.511) and Germany with 3,8 percent (20.726).

For a percentage of 88,7 percent of tourists, the purpose of their trip in July 2024 was holidays, for 8,6 percent to visit friends and relatives, and for 2,7 percent for business. Respectively, in July 2023, 85,4 percent of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 11,3 percent visited friends or relatives and 3,3 percent visited Cyprus for business reasons.

A total number of 171.382 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in July compared to 184.335 in the corresponding month in 2023, recording a decrease of 7 percent. The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in July were Greece with a share of 40,1 percent (68.805), the UK with 11,1 percent (18.987) and Italy with 4,8 percent (8.191).

The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in July was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 74,4 percent, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 12,1 percent, studies 11,9 percent and other reasons at 1,5 percent.
