Revelation of the Akaki - Piadhia Mosaic

The Department of Antiquities has officially unveiled the final image of the complete mosaic found at Piadhia locality, in Akaki village. Dating from the first half of the fourth century AD,

the well-constructed piece depicts different segments of chariot races taking place in an ancient stadium, with additional references to the nine muses which can be identified by the symbols each one is holding, representing their unique qualities.

The excavations in the area commenced in 2013 and continued throughout the most part of 2015, with a pause in 2014, under the supervision of Fryni Hadjichristophi, archaeological officer, Department of Antiquities.

The project is set to continue in 2017.
