Cyprus Tourist Arrivals for July Down

Cyprus arrivals of tourists reached 64,914 in July of this year compared to 550,971 in July 2019, recording a decrease of 88,2 percent.

For the period of January – July of the year, arrivals of tourists totaled 320,589 compared to 2,181,994 in the corresponding period of 2019, recording a decrease of 85,3 percent.

It should be noted that in March, a ban of entry to the Republic was imposed on several categories of persons, including tourists, up to June 08, as part of the measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in Cyprus.

As from June 09 a gradual easing of the travel restrictions to Cyprus was implemented, allowing the arrivals from specific countries, according to a categorisation by the Ministry of Health, based on their epidemiological risk assessment.

Tourist arrivals from Greece decreased by 9,7 percent in July compared to July 2019, while a decrease of 28,3 percent was also recorded for tourists from Germany, 14,3 percent decrease from Poland, 39,7 percent decrease from Switzerland, 52,8 percent decrease from Denmark and 42,8 percent from Austria.

For a percentage of 70,6 percent of tourists, the purpose of their trip in July  was holidays, for 20,1 percent to visit friends and relatives and for 9,3 percent for reasons.
