President Commends Troodos Development Efforts

Nicos Anastasiades, president, Cyprus, recently addressed the First Conference on the Rebirth of Troodos.

The president noted mountain area communities once boasted 87,000 residents but now had only about 27,000.

Anastasiades recalled that his pre-election campaign in 2013 had included promises that action should be taken to assist not only the Troodos region but all the mountain regions in general.

He credited the event’s organiser, Yiannakis Papadouris, an activist for the mountain areas for turning the mountain village of Kalopanayiotis into a centre of action after it had all but been abandoned.

The president said he was certain the experts brought together by the conference, would have a useful exchange of opinions following the completion of the first phase of the national strategy for the development of Troodos’ mountain communities.
