Cyprus tourist arrivals for December 2023 reached 123.630 compared to 110.041 in December 2022, recording an increase of 12,3 percent. For the period of January – December 2023, arrivals of tourists totalled 3.845.652 compared to 3.201.080 in the corresponding period of 2022, recording an increase of 20,1 percent.

The year 2023 concluded with a positive sign for tourism in Cyprus, as passenger traffic at Cyprus airports recorded more than 11.6 million passengers, with an average of 32,000 passengers per day (41K/summer, 18K/winter). Passenger traffic in 2023 had an increase of three percent compared to 2019, marking the best performance ever recorded at Cyprus Airports.

In 2023, 56 percent of people in the EU aged 16 to 74 had at least basic overall digital skills. 

The movement of travellers to and from Cyprus in 2022 recorded an increase compared to 2021 and 2020. Total arrivals of travellers reached 4.833.939 recording an increase of 85,8 percent and departures totalled 4.815.779, also recording an increase of 86,4percent, compared to 2021. In 2020 arrivals of travellers reached 1.164.938 and departures 1.167.942. Air traffic represented 95,5 percent of arrivals and 95,4 percent of departures in 2022.

New research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Sustainable Tourism Global Center (STGC), initiated by the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, revealed that the global travel and tourism sector is delivering soaring employment opportunities to women and young people around the world.

Aegean Airlines and Cyprus Airways have signed a long-term ACMI (wet lease) deal in which the Cypriot flag carrier will lease two Airbus A320 aircraft to the Greek flag carrier including cockpit and cabin crews. The first aircraft joined the Aegean fleet in December, whilst the second lease will commence at the end of March 2024. The agreement was facilitated by aviation and ACMI specialists, Zela Aviation.

In 2022, at the EU level, 34 percent of all tourism nights spent occurred in just two months, July and August. In nearly three of four EU regions at level two of the nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS 2), August was the month with the highest concentration in the number of nights spent (170 out of the 242 EU NUTS two regions). It was followed by July in 62 EU regions, covering most of Northern Europe and parts of Belgium, Czechia, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary and Slovakia.
